Indiana has passed legislation that abolished its department of economic development and establishes the Indiana Economic Development Corporation to replace it. Read more.
There is a great deal of uncertainty among EDPros in the state as to whether the new corporation signals that the state will push resources into recruitment and away from programs that support innovation and entrepreneurship.
For example, Purdue is launching a new initiative to help the state's manufacturing sector. The university is looking to the state legislature for $5 million a year to support the Advancing Indiana's Manufacturing Initiative. Read more. Purdue is also moving ahead with plans for a new technology park.
