In case you missed it, Georgia Tech's manufacturing study, released some weeks ago, is still generating good press. Read more. You can download the report from this page. The Georgia Tech report underscores the importance of innovation to the future of manufacturing.
While you're at it you should download the National Association of Manufacturer's recent report on skill shortages. The NAM report concludes:
-- Today's skill shortages in manufacturing are extremely broad and deep. -- Skills shortages are having a widespread impact on manufacturers' abilities to compete
Among its recommendations, the study urges: -- Educators to emphasize science, math and technology-related programs in K-12 schools -- Employers to invest at least 3 percent of payroll in training for current employees

Some Background on EDPro Weblog
The purpose of this weblog is to help economic development professionals -- EDPros -- keep up with the changes sweeping our profession. Strap on your goggles. It's a whole new game.
