Here's an interesting commentary on the economic development potential of stadiums.

Written by Stanford economist who has studied the issue, the article notes:

"Before-and-after studies of new stadiums show no statistically significant effect on local employment, income and retail sales, and more often than not the effect can be slightly negative. These results make sense. Sports teams employ few people in relation to the revenue they generate." Read more.
